CD - Celtic Music - BOOK OF SECRETS is likely the most recognizable of Canadian-born vocalist Loreena McKennitt's albums, largely due to the pop-chart success of "The Mummer's Dance," (her first chart hit). The instruments often lean toward string/bow instruments, meaning violins, cellos, guitar and harp are liberally used. "The Highwayman," based on an Alfred Noyes poem, is one of the album's stronger offerings and shows McKennitt's growing flair for enriching narratives.
An enchanting CD rich with Celtic folk styles and haunting lyrics dealing with loves lost, crimes commited and magickal workings. A nice mix of melancholy insturmentals and emotion grabbing lyrics! A nice one to put on and leave on!
